Laphroaig – Oak Select (70cl)

This is an Islay single malt from Laphroaig, in a 70cl bottle. The master distiller hand-selects whiskies from Oloroso sherry casks, first-fill ex-bourbon barrels and Pedro Ximenez sherry casks, at different stages of maturity. The whisky is then finished in virgin American oak, a wood the source describes as rare for Scotch. The colour is bright gold. The nose offers classic peat and medicinal herbs, giving way to chocolate and malt and a nearly citrus close. On the palate the peat is present but not dominant, sweet and soft, with a long floral finish of marzipan and lime.
