Laphroaig Oak Select is an Islay single malt at 40% vol., in a 70cl bottle. It is matured in a mix of casks: Oloroso sherry, fresh American white oak, Pedro Ximénez hogsheads, quarter casks and first-fill bourbon. The colour is bright gold.
Peat leads the nose, followed by ripe red fruit from the PX and Oloroso casks, a touch of dryness from American oak, then marzipan and even lime. The palate is full and sweet at first, then turns to dry, peaty, ashy flavours with rich fruit from the European casks. The finish is medium in length, with peat.
