Laphroaig Quarter Cask is a peated Islay single malt Scotch, bottled at 48% in a 750ml bottle without chill filtration.
It is matured twice. The spirit spends about five years in ex-bourbon barrels, then moves into quarter casks, roughly a quarter the size of a standard American oak barrel, for a further seven to eight months.
The nose is maritime smoke with tar and engine oil, then orange peel and a little coconut. The palate is soft and fruity at first, turning to hot peat, seaweed and black pepper. The finish is long, sweet and smoky, with a salted edge.
