Laphroaig Quarter Cask is an Islay single malt matured first in ex-bourbon American oak and then in smaller quarter-sized casks. It is bottled at 48% ABV, non-chill-filtered, in a 75cl bottle.
The smaller casks bring more contact between wood and spirit, adding coconut, vanilla and a creamy sweetness around Laphroaig's peat and iodine, which remain present.
Tasting notes list medicinal peat, iodine, coconut, banana and vanilla on the nose. The palate is smoky, with toffee, coconut cream and light seaweed over a surprising sweetness, and the finish is long and warming, with peat, vanilla and a medicinal coastal note.
