Laphroaig Quarter Cask is an Islay single malt bottled at 48% in a 70cl bottle, a higher strength chosen in keeping with older traditions.
The whisky is first matured in American oak barrels that previously held bourbon, then moved into new, specially made quarter casks for a final seven to eight months. The smaller casks give more contact between spirit and oak.
The colour is bright gold. The nose has chocolate fudge and vanilla-laced peat, turning more seaweedy and oceanic with air. The palate is sweet smoke, salt, pepper, iodine and vanilla, and the finish is long and dry with cocoa, peat and baked citrus.
