Laphroaig – Quarter Cask Single Malt Scotch Whisky (70cl, 48%)

Laphroaig Quarter Cask is an Islay single malt matured in quarter casks, the small casks often used for Scotch whisky in the 1900s. They were carried over the Glens by working horses, and were replaced by larger casks as demand grew and suppliers struggled to keep up. The distillery found that small casks give up to 30% more contact with the wood than most larger casks used today, so it decided to bring quarter casks back. This single malt is bottled at 48% in a 70cl bottle and has a deep golden colour. The nose is peaty and smoky with fruity tones. The palate is deep, complex and smoky, with a surprising touch of mild sweetness.
