Laphroaig Select is an Islay single malt Scotch whisky without an age statement, bottled at 40% in a 750ml bottle. It is a vatting of whisky matured in five types of cask: oloroso sherry butts, Pedro Ximénez seasoned hogsheads, first-fill bourbon quarter casks, European oak hogsheads and new American oak barrels.
The new oak used for the final stage of maturation is unusual in Scotch whisky and adds a bolder layer of vanilla and spice.
The nose is medicinal peat with honey, malt, caramel, lemon, green apple and a little mint. The palate is creamy, with honey, vanilla, iodine and brine, then ginger and tangy lemon. The finish is medium, with smoke, caramel and dry oak.
