This is the third release in Laphroaig's The Ian Hunter Story, a 33 year old Islay single malt matured in ex-bourbon casks. The series honours Ian Hunter, the last member of the Johnston family to own and manage the distillery. Subtitled 'Source Protector', this edition tells how he protected Laphroaig's water source and peat fields. The whisky sits within the pages of a book-style presentation. On the nose, Laphroaig peat rounded by age comes with seawater, charcoal ashes, lemon candy, peaches and vanilla pastry. The palate shows mango, pineapple and creamy papaya under a wave of oak, pepper and ginger, with iodine and wax late on. The finish is of good length and slightly drying, with mint, cold ashes and tobacco leaf.
