Ledaig 16 Year Old 2009/2026 Murray McDavid Quinta dos Frades Wine Cask Finish

This is a 16-year-old Ledaig from Tobermory Distillery on the Isle of Mull, distilled in 2009 and bottled in 2026 by Murray McDavid for its Benchmark series. It is a markedly smoky malt. After its first maturation, the whisky spent four years in red wine barriques from Quinta dos Frades in the Douro Valley, a finish that adds depth to the spirit. The nose brings delicate violets, tart dried cranberries, smoky meat and a little black pepper. On the palate there is dark chocolate and ripe berries with oak spice and a maritime edge. The finish shows firm tannins and tobacco notes, ending in a long, malty sweetness.
