Ledaig 2001/2023 21 Year Old American Oak Finish - Murray McDavid Mission Gold (70cl, 52.7%)

This is a 21 year old Ledaig in a 70cl bottle, finished in an American oak hogshead and bottled by Murray McDavid in its Mission Gold series. It was distilled at Tobermory in 2001 and bottled in 2023 at a cask strength of 52.7%. The single cask gave 213 bottles, and the whisky is not chill-filtered and has no added colour. Ledaig is the peated malt from Tobermory. Here the smoke is strong, with coastal notes and a fruity counterpoint of tropical fruit and pomegranate. The nose combines smoked meat, spicy oak and a salty, sea-air note. The palate is full-bodied, with dry leather, flint and grilled meat alongside pineapple, mango, papaya and pomegranate. The finish is long, with sweet smoke and a little chilli spice.
