Ledaig Sinclair Series Rioja Cask Finish (70cl, 46%)

This is the first release in the Sinclair Series from Ledaig, the peated malt of Tobermory. It is made from heavily peated barley, matured in ex-bourbon casks and finished in hand-selected Spanish Rioja casks. It is bottled at 46% ABV in a 70cl bottle. Smoke, spice, grape and sweet berries run through it, with a lingering saltiness. The nose has Turkish delight, rose petals, candied fruit and grapes, then leather and peppery spice, with a hint of chocolate behind. The palate is creamy, with almonds, barley and sweet malt, then black raspberries, vanilla, cocoa and cinnamon. The finish is smoky, with red fruit and sea spray.
