Leopold Bros 5 Year Bottled in Bond is a straight bourbon from the Denver, Colorado distillery run by brothers Todd and Scott Leopold. It is bottled at 50% ABV (100 proof) in a 750ml bottle, without chill filtration.
The five years are spent in a dunnage-style bonded barrelhouse, where barrels sit low on earthen floors in an unheated warehouse. The mash bill is 64% corn, 21% malted barley and 15% Abruzzi heritage rye, pot distilled after open fermentation.
The nose brings roasted malt, cocoa, straw and fresh bread with soft fruit and a little rye spice. The palate is full and creamy, with cinnamon, toffee, pear, cola and black pepper, and the finish is soft and silky with dark baking chocolate, roasted malt and cherries.
