Leopold Bros. 8 Year Old is a straight bourbon bottled at a cask strength of 55% ABV in a 75cl-sized 750ml bottle, as a limited release. The mashbill is 65% corn, 20% floor-malted barley and 15% rye.
It went into new American oak barrels with a #3 char at 100 proof and matured for eight years in a dunnage-style warehouse, with extra time in used Three Chamber Rye whiskey barrels that adds oiliness and a silky mouthfeel.
On the palate, a bold wave of heat gives way to sweet grains, graham crackers, candied apricot and orange marmalade.
