This is a Lowland single malt from Lochlea, part of the distillery's seasonal releases, each of which reflects a time of year on the farm. The Sowing Edition looks to spring and the planting of seed, and Second Crop follows an earlier release in the series.
The whisky matured in first-fill bourbon barrels from the upper levels of the warehouse, where the warmer conditions shaped its character. It was bottled on 21 March 2023 at 46%, with no added colour and without chill-filtration.
Sweet red apples and ripe pears lead, followed by vanilla pods and almond oil. The finish is refreshing and recalls a walk through pine woods.
