Lord Calvert (75cl, 40%)

Lord Calvert is a blended Canadian whisky bottled at 40% in a 75cl bottle. It is distilled in column stills and, reportedly, aged for 48 to 72 months in oak, longer than the 36-month minimum Canadian law requires. The mash is corn-led, thought to be 70 to 80 percent corn with 15 to 20 percent rye, plus a small amount of flavouring whisky. The spirit is double distilled before it goes into oak. The nose is medium amber in the glass, with fruit, vanilla and maple syrup. The palate is soft and lightly sweet, with toasty oak and a peppery rye note. The finish is long and smooth, with earthy tones, oak tannin and a trace of rye spice.
