Billet Doux is a late harvest dessert wine from Luc Morlet, made at Alexander Valley in Sonoma County. The name means 'little love letter' in French. It is a blend of Sémillon (65%), Sauvignon Blanc (31%) and Muscat à Petits Grains (4%) from vines aged 25 to 60 years. Morning sea fog and afternoon sun encourage botrytis. The grapes are picked by hand over several passes in November. Each variety is fermented separately with wild yeast in small French oak barrels, then aged for 16 months. It is light gold, with apricot, white peach, greengage, quince, mango, honey and vanilla on the nose. The palate is luscious and fresh, with a very long finish.
