Macallan 18 Year Old Sherry Oak is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky, bottled at 43% ABV in a 750ml bottle. It was matured exclusively in European oak casks seasoned with Oloroso sherry.
Those casks go through a six-year preparation, from felling and air-drying to seasoning in Jerez, Spain, before being filled. The spirit is double distilled in some of the smallest copper pot stills on Speyside, with a narrow cut of roughly 16%.
Raisins, dates, prunes, marzipan and orange zest on the nose lead to dark chocolate, dried figs, caramel, nutmeg and clove on the palate. The finish is long, with sherried sweetness, cocoa and a faint wisp of smoke.
