Maen 12 Year Old is a Japanese malt whisky bottled at 43% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It is distilled in a double copper pot still, aged for twelve years in ex-bourbon barrels and then blended.
The name and logo follow the idea of the ensō, the single-brushstroke circle of Japanese calligraphy. The logo was drawn by the calligrapher Juju Kurihara.
The nose offers macadamia nut, cocoa powder, baking spices and charred oak. The palate is rich, full and powerful, with a smoky edge and moderate acidity softened by vanilla malt. The finish carries black tea and chocolate brownie.
