Maker's Mark is a wheated Kentucky straight bourbon in a one-litre bottle, bottled at 45% ABV. It is made at the Loretto distillery that Bill Samuels Sr. founded in 1953.
The mashbill is 70% corn, 16% red winter wheat and 14% malted barley, with the wheat taking the place of rye. The spirit is double-distilled and enters the barrel at no higher than 110 proof. Each batch is aged for roughly six to seven years, and the barrels are rotated between upper and lower warehouse levels.
The nose is brown sugar, butterscotch, cherry and candied pecans. The palate is soft and sweet, with caramel, vanilla, clove, cinnamon and ripe pear, and the finish is medium, creamy and dry at the close.
