Maker's Mark Wood Finishing Series 2020 is the second annual release in the distillery's wood experiment: a Kentucky straight bourbon on a wheated base, at 55.4% ABV in a 750ml bottle.
It is finished with two virgin oak stave profiles developed with Independent Stave Company over twelve months of trials. SE4 is virgin French oak, chosen for caramel notes, and PR5 is virgin American oak, chosen for vanilla.
The aroma is heavy vanilla with spiced caramel. The palate recalls butter pecan ice cream, with creamy vanilla, dry spice and caramelised sweetness. The finish is long, round and dry.
