A Japanese whisky from Mars, from the Dake Kanba brand created for the Hokkaido market and named after the Japanese white birch. This expression was finished in casks that previously held Tokachi Wine's Kiyomi red wine from Hokkaido.
The casks travelled about 1,800 kilometres to the Yakushima Aging Cellar for the finishing, adding an elegant wine influence to the rich malty character of the whisky. It was released in December 2022 in an edition of about 1,200 bottles.
The nose is malty and sweet with gentle wine-cask aromas. The palate is smooth and full-bodied, with rich malt and a spicy edge from the Kiyomi casks. The finish is refined and lingering, with richness balanced by delicate spice.
