Mars 'Komagatake' Yakushima Aging 2021 is a Japanese single malt at 56% ABV, in a 70cl bottle. It is the fourth release in the Yakushima Aging series from Mars Whisky.
It was distilled at Mars Shinshu in the Nagano Alps, then sent south to the island of Yakushima to age for three to five years in ex-bourbon barrels and ex-sherry casks. The malted barley is peated to 20 or 50 ppm, and the whisky is bottled non-chill filtered.
The nose is delicate and fragrant, with orange zest, gooseberry, white flowers, honey, vanilla and mild coastal peat. The palate is intense, with peat, citrus, orange cream, sweet spices and licorice. The finish carries cayenne pepper, honey and a touch of brackish frost.
