This is a VSOP Cognac from Martell, finished in barrels that previously held other eaux-de-vie. Martell treats ageing as the heart of its work, and here the final maturation in these used casks is meant to pass on the best qualities of the wood.
The colour is a warm copper with flashes of gold. The nose is concentrated, led by ripe peach, apricot and plum, with fruit and woody tones in harmony. On the palate the fruit continues, with woody touches alternating with tertiary notes from the time in cask.
It suits a quiet evening after dinner.
