Martell VSOP is a Cognac aged in 'red' barrels, the name given to fine-grained oak barrels whose wood has taken on a reddish tone. Martell's cellar master selected only these rare barrels for this bottling, which shows the house's particular ageing style.
It is a warm copper colour with glints of gold. The nose is round and fresh, with yellow stone fruits such as cherry plum and Reine-Claude, softly coated by mellow wood. Apricot and vine peach follow as it opens.
The palate is full and broad, with small plums, peaches and apricots lifted by delicate sweet spice from the oak.
