Martha's 40 Year Old Tawny Port (70cl, 20%)

This is a 40 Year Old Tawny port from Martha's, a Douro house founded in 1727 that handles harvest, production, bottling and sales itself. The port is aged in oak casks and blended from six grapes: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Amarela and Tinta Roriz. It shows a deep, classic tawny colour. The nose is soft, rich and elegant. On the palate, firm oak notes sit alongside sweetish marzipan and a touch of vanilla. It is best served lightly chilled, on its own or with heavy desserts such as Portuguese egg tart, nut tart or risalamande.
