Mary Dowling Tequila Barrel Finished High Rye Bourbon

A tequila barrel finished high rye bourbon from Mary Dowling, built on a high rye Kentucky straight bourbon. The mash bill is 70% corn, 25% malted rye and 5% malted barley. The bourbon rests for a minimum of four years in new toasted and charred American oak, then moves to Appalachian oak tequila barrels. Those barrels held sherry first, then Oloroso under a solera system, then VDN, before holding reposado tequila in Mexico. The nose brings oak, subtle spices, herbal roots, orange and light floral notes. The palate has agave, lemon, grapefruit, smoke, tobacco and nutmeg, and the finish is medium in length with black pepper.
