This is a 1949 vintage fortified red wine from the Massandra Winery in Crimea, bottled at 17% in a 75cl bottle and labelled as a port wine.
Massandra was founded in 1894 by Tsar Nicholas II on the outskirts of Yalta, and supplied fine wines to the royal family while they stayed at their summer palace in Livadia. The mild climate suited vines, and the most successful wines proved to be long-lived fortified styles made in the same way as vintage port.
