Matsui The Peated is a peated Japanese single malt from Kurayoshi Distillery in Tottori, bottled at 48% in a 70cl bottle. It is made from peated malted barley, pot distilled and matured in white oak bourbon casks, then proofed with Mount Daisen spring water.
The label carries Hokusai's The Great Wave, chosen to reflect the force of the whisky. It belongs to the premium single malt line from Matsui.
The nose has fresh toasted malt, earthy peat and smoke, with a touch of vanilla oak. The palate brings toasty oak, brown sugar, creamy vanilla and orchard fruit under ashy smoke. The finish is moderately oily, with peat smoke and fresh apple.
