Orange Label is an American rye whiskey from Valentine Distilling in Ferndale, Michigan, bottled at 47% in a 750ml bottle. It is aged in 53-gallon charred oak barrels.
The whiskey blends rye sourced from MGP with Valentine's own rye, which is distilled three times in pot stills. The mashbill is roughly 95% rye and 5% malted barley, and a long fermentation encourages the fruit notes.
The nose opens with rye spice, caraway and fennel seed, then burnt vanilla, toasted brown bread, dried banana and under-ripe papaya. The palate is round and viscous, with warm oak, orange peel and brewed tea before a burst of rye spice. The finish is medium-long and earthy.
