McCarthy's 6 Year Old is an Oregon single malt bottled at a cask strength of 56.1% ABV, non-chill-filtered with no added colour. It is made from 100% peat-malted Scottish barley, brewed into wash by Double Mountain Brewery and distilled once in a Holstein pot still.
The spirit spent six years in Oregon oak before a finish in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks from Tonelería Del Sur in southern Spain. It comes from Clear Creek Distillery, part of Hood River Distillers.
The nose offers saddle leather, sweet tobacco and campfire smoke. Cherry jam, raisins and brown sugar on the palate give way to chicory and bitter chocolate, and the finish is long and smoky.
