McConnell's 5 Year Old is an Irish whisky blending malt and grain whiskies, aged for five years in first-fill American oak ex-bourbon barrels. The colour is honey gold.
The McConnell's name dates to Belfast in 1776, when brothers John and James McConnell founded it. The brand was revived in 2020 after a hiatus that began in the 1950s.
The nose offers light citrus, peppery spice and vanilla. On the palate there are earthy fruits, butterscotch and vanilla sweetness, with white pepper and oak. The finish is sweet spice and oak, with ripe fruit lingering.
