McConnell's Irish Whisky 5 Year Old Sherry Cask is an Irish whiskey aged for five years in sherry casks. The McConnell family of Belfast began selling their whisky to the public in 1776, and the brand kept the spelling without an 'e' when other Irish distillers added one around 1900. The nose offers dried figs and blackcurrants, then nutmeg and cinnamon, dark chocolate and a hint of fresh leather. On the palate come demerara sugar, ripe dark cherries and black raspberry, followed by bitter dark chocolate shavings and red apples. The finish is lingering oak with a touch of leather and a little clove.
