The Chinquapin One is a five year old peated Speyside single malt from Glenallachie, bottled at 48% in a 70cl bottle. Billy Walker bought the distillery in 2017 and planned to make a smoky whisky, and the first peated spirit was distilled there in 2018.
It is made with mainland peat to a level of 35 ppm and matured in Chinquapin virgin oak casks from the northern Ozark region of Missouri, USA.
The nose has glowing oak twigs, burnt liquorice and gingerbread, with wild heather, ginger, caramel and orange peel. The palate brings dark chocolate, crème brûlée, toasted almonds, cinnamon, crisp caramel, aniseed and campfire smoke.
