Meikle Toir is a peated 5 year old Speyside single malt from The GlenAllachie Distillery, bottled at 50% in a 70cl bottle. The name roughly translates as 'the big chase'.
Billy Walker bought the distillery in 2017 and wanted to make a smoky malt, a style that is rare in Speyside today. Peated spirit was first produced there in 2018. This one uses mainland peat for a sweet smoke at 35 ppm, and it was matured in first-fill bourbon barrels, American virgin oak casks and rye barrels.
The nose offers Christmas spices, burnt honey, roasted coffee beans and hazelnuts, smoked almonds and caramel. On the palate come a touch of sweet peat, rich chocolate and heather honey, then cinnamon, ginger and smoked sugar.
