Michter's Small Batch US No.1 Sour Mash Whiskey (70cl, 43%)

A sour mash whiskey from Michter's, the Louisville, Kentucky name, bottled at 43%. It revives a style that was popular through the 1970s and 1980s. It uses the sour mash method, in which part of an earlier ferment starts the next. A unique grain recipe places it outside both bourbon and rye. The nose is warm and sweet, with caramel, vanilla and baked bread. The palate is silky, with butterscotch, sugared almonds and soft orchard fruit. It finishes gently spiced, with cinnamon and a touch of rye spice.
