Michter's US*1 Single Barrel Straight Rye is a straight rye whiskey from the United States, bottled from a single barrel at 42.4% ABV. The mash bill contains at least 51% rye, and the whiskey is aged in new, fire-charred American white oak barrels.
The US*1 name honours the Michter's heritage, which traces back to Shenk's Distillery, founded in 1753 in Schaefferstown, Pennsylvania. The company is now headquartered in Kentucky.
The colour is a rich golden amber. The nose is spicy, with dark fruit, plum, brown sugar, cinnamon and a little tobacco. The palate is full and soft, with dark cherries, dried plum, honey, toffee and rye spice, leading to a long, dry finish of warming pepper and caramel.
