Michter's US*1 Sour Mash is a small batch Kentucky whiskey, bottled at 43% ABV in a 750ml bottle. Its mashbill is nearly 50% corn, with rye and a small portion of malted barley making up the rest, so it can be classed as neither bourbon nor rye. It is made by the sour mash method and aged in new, charred American oak barrels.
The nose offers toasted sugar and honeyed vanilla, then dried fruit with strawberry and orange peel, and a hint of roasted nuts and herbal tea. On the palate, candied cherry and raspberry give way to cinnamon, butter and black pepper. The finish is medium-long, with cinnamon bun sweetness, dried fruit and a faint herbal dryness.
