Michter's US 1 Straight Rye is a single barrel Kentucky rye whiskey, bottled at 42.4% ABV in a 75cl bottle. The mashbill is 53% rye, 33% corn and 14% malted barley, and the rye is sheared before mashing.
The spirit goes into new American white oak barrels that are toasted and charred, filled at a low 103 proof. The barrels then mature in heat-cycled warehouses, and each is selected individually for bottling.
The nose brings butterscotch and cinnamon, with cherry, coconut-caramel sweetness, leather and mocha. The palate is buttery and soft, with caramel and gingerbread, then peppery spice and delicate citrus. The finish is medium, with oak, leather, soft pepper and a faint nuttiness.
