This is the 2026 release of Michter's Toasted Barrel Finish Rye, a limited annual bottling. It starts as US*1 Kentucky Straight Rye matured in new charred American white oak, then spends further time in a second barrel made from wood air-dried for 24 months and toasted rather than charred. Master Distiller Dan McKee and Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson chose the toast level and the whiskey. Each barrel is bottled at its own strength, with this release averaging 54.6% ABV.
The nose brings toffee, honey and black walnut. The palate has dark chocolate, salted caramel, cherry, mint and rye spice, and the finish is toasty, with rounded oak and gingerbread.
