Michter's US1 Straight Rye Single Barrel (70cl, 42.4%)

Michter's US1 Single Barrel Straight Rye is a Kentucky straight rye bottled at 42.4% in a 70cl bottle. Each bottle comes from one barrel. When Master Distiller Pam Heilmann is happy with the maturation, the barrel is kept apart rather than blended with others. The whiskey is made from selected American rye grain, which is cut before it goes into the mash to expose more surface and draw more flavour from the grain. The nose is heavy with vanilla, and vanilla leads on the palate too before it moves to a sweet, layered flavour with light smoke. A peppery rye spice arrives just before swallowing, and the whole is well balanced.
