Midleton – Very Rare Chestnut Edition (56.1%)

Midleton Very Rare Chestnut Edition is an Irish release from Midleton Distillery, the result of an eight-year project exploring Irish sweet chestnut casks. The wood came from trees on the Cappoquin Estate in County Waterford and was made into 250-litre hogsheads. A blend of light, medium and heavy single pot still whiskeys, first matured in ex-bourbon barrels for 12 to 19 years, was finished for a further five years in lightly toasted chestnut. It is bottled at a cask strength of 56.1% without chill filtration, with caramel sweetness and earthy wood notes.
