Milam & Greene Port Cask Rye Whiskey (47%)

This is a straight rye whiskey from Milam & Greene. The rye was distilled in Indiana, then brought to Texas, where it is batched in the warehouse and finished in used Port wine casks. The Texan heat affects how quickly and how strongly the casks give up their flavour, so some take longer than others. The whiskey is tasted regularly during the finish, then the casks are batched together and brought to 94 proof (47%) before bottling. The colour is ruby. The nose is cinnamon, chocolate and dark fruits such as blackcurrants and blackberries. The palate is rich and velvety, and the finish is long and warm.
