Heavily Peated Virgin Oak is a 46% single malt Scotch from Milroy's, part of its Heavily Peated family, offered here as Batch 1 in a 70cl bottle. It is a vatting of 40% new oak and 60% first-fill ex-Kentucky bourbon casks, bottled without chill-filtration or added colour.
The new oak sits alongside rustic, coastal peat and an oily, rich spirit.
The nose brings medical smoke, tomato leaf, elastoplast, orange peel, black pepper and liquorice, later turning to green pepper, fennel and Olbas oil. On the palate are roadwork smoke, cinnamon, black cherry and strawberry jam on burnt toast. The finish is very long, with kerosene and sweet chilli chocolate.
