Blue Spot is a cask strength single pot still Irish whiskey, matured for no less than seven years at Midleton Distillery in County Cork for Mitchell & Son of Dublin. It is bottled in a 75cl bottle, and the strength varies from batch to batch.
The whiskey rests in bourbon casks, sherry butts and Portuguese Madeira casks. It returned in November 2020 after 56 years away, and the name comes from the blue paint daub once used to mark seven-year-old casks.
The nose brings pineapple, kiwi, green banana and lime zest with baked apple, hazelnut and toasted wood. The palate is smooth, with mixed fruit, clove oil, black pepper, vanilla and cinnamon, and the finish balances exotic fruit and spice.
