Mortlach 12 Years Old 'The Wee Witchie' is a Speyside single malt from the distillery at Dufftown, bottled at 43.4% ABV in a 750ml bottle. It was matured in a mix of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks.
The name honours the smallest of Mortlach's six stills. It was released in 2018 as the entry bottling of the relaunched core range, and the spirit is distilled an effective 2.81 times, with worm tub condensers.
The nose is rich oak and sandalwood with light spice, charred toffee and red berries. The palate is sweet and spicy, with demerara sugar, dark chocolate, cherry jam and light tobacco over the distillery's meaty character. The finish is smooth and dry, with bitter plum.
