Mortlach 20 Year Old Cowie's Blue Seal is a Speyside single malt from Dufftown's first legal distillery, bottled at 43.4% ABV in a 750ml bottle. It was matured for 20 years in sherry-led casks, including refill wood.
Released in 2018 as the oldest of the relaunched Mortlach trio, it revives the Cowie's Blue Seal name from a 1909 bottling. Mortlach was founded in 1823 and is known for its 2.81 distillation, run through six stills with traditional worm tub condensers.
The nose has dark, dried-fruit aromas with cedar. The palate is robust, savoury and spicy, with pepper and cinnamon through the middle and smooth vanilla oak beneath.
