Mount Gay Eclipse is a Barbadian rum made from pot and column distilled rum, blended before ageing and matured in ex-bourbon wood. The classic Eclipse was first bottled in 1910 and named after the total solar eclipse that accompanied Halley's comet that year. Mount Gay is a single blended rum produced on both continuous column stills and pot stills, some over 100 years old. The distillery's oldest surviving deed dates to 1703, making it the oldest commercial rum producer in the world.
