This 14 year old single malt from Glen Spey is a Murray McDavid bottling in its Benchmark range. It was distilled in 2007 and bottled in 2023, after spending its final three years in a Pedro Ximénez sherry hogshead.
Glen Spey is one of four distilleries in Rothes, in Speyside, and its long fermentation gives an oily, nutty spirit. This release was bottled at 50.1% ABV, with natural colour and no chill filtration, in an outturn of 181 bottles.
The nose is mocha, caramel sauce and malt. The palate brings bramble fruits, cocoa and oak spice, and the finish is cinnamon with a hint of nuts and a creamy texture.
