Nagahama The First Batch is a Japanese single malt released in 2022, six years after whisky production began at Nagahama in December 2016. It is bottled at 50% in a 50cl bottle.
It is a vatted blend of four of the distillery's own non-peated whiskies, distilled between 2017 and 2019: a bourbon whisky base with sherry cask, Islay quarter and Mizunara oak whiskies. The colour is a madder red, likened to the sunset over Lake Biwa.
The nose offers ripe red apple and persimmon, vanilla, coconut and caramel, then raspberries and cranberries. The palate is very smooth, with raisin cookies, dried apricot and black tea.
