This is a twelve-year-old Ardmore bottled at 55.8% ABV in a 50cl bottle. The malt was peated to 70 ppm, unusually high for Ardmore, and the whisky began as an experiment in 2013.
It finished for twelve months in a historic first-fill Amontillado cask. That cask developed a leak, and about 170 of its original 500 litres remained.
The nose has peat smoke, cold ash and roasted nuts, with walnut and dried orange peel. The palate is smoky with roasted almonds and bitter cocoa, and the finish is long, smoky and increasingly dry.
